The Digital Agency has announced a new design proposal for the My Number card, which they aim to introduce in 2026.

We have removed the gender notation from the current card and changed the date of birth to the Western calendar.

The Digital Agency announced a design proposal on the 19th, with a policy of introducing a new card in 2026, when some people will renew their My Number cards.

According to this report, compared to current cards, the overall font size has been increased to make it easier to read, the date of birth has been changed from the Japanese calendar to the Western calendar, and the name has been written in Roman letters.

Furthermore, out of consideration for people of sexual minorities, the "gender" listed on current cards will be deleted, and the expiry date, which used to be 5th or 10th birthdays from the date of issue, will not be renewed. To prevent this, we are extending each period by one month.

Digital Minister Kono said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on the 19th, ``We have been considering making the card more convenient and attractive for the people. We want to make the card even easier to use.''
