The National Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid kicks off the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Hans Heinrich ThyssenBornemisza, which will be held throughout 2021, with German Expressionism in the collection of Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza, an exhibition that brings together for the first time the works of the Thyssen collection with which Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza and her children still conserve. It is about 80 paintings that, due to their expressive traces, because of the unnatural colors and the contrasts of the expressionists, immediately attracted the baron's gaze in the middle of the 20th century. The exhibition, curated by Paloma Alarcó, head of Modern Painting at the museum, is presented around three concepts: the process of creating the paintings, their early reception by critics and the public, until their denigration by the Nazi regime and its subsequent post-war rehabilitation, and, finally, the baron's relationship with his dealers and the exhibition projects he organized to disseminate his collection in the international context. The collection includes paintings by painters such as Emil Nolde, Van Gogh, Munch, Gauguin, Erich Heckel, Kandinsky, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Otto Mueller, among others, and will be on view until March 14, 2021 at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Paseo del Prado, 8, Madrid). Price: 10 euros.
