The Culture and Science Symposium in Dubai held a dialogue session to discuss the novel "The Scar" by the American writer Bruce Lowry, which sheds light on the phenomenon of bullying, and the session was attended by the psychological counselor Dr.

Nadia Bohanad and Dr.

Maitha Ghadir, Fathia Al-Nimr, Zina Al-Shami, Hala Shawky, and a group of interested parties.

The session was moderated by writer Aisha Soltan, saying that the Tunisian poet and translator Wiam Ghaddas mentioned that the beauty of the novel "The Scar" by the American writer Bruce Lawry prompted her to translate it from French into Arabic, so that it reaches the largest number of Arab readers, and she thinks that if the Arab reader reads this The novel will take a long time to be forgotten, because it is one of the novels that leave a great impact on the heart and soul, as it is one of the most writings that dealt with difference.

Aisha added that the novel was published in Arabic in 2018, but it was published in 1960 in French, then the writer translated it into English, and it achieved much success.

The novel is a wonderful literary work and an educational, psychological and behavioral book on education, the difference and the problems that some children may encounter in schools and what is now known in schools as the phenomenon of "bullying."

The book is educational, indicating many of the values that are supposed to be learned from the beginning.

And that the protagonist of the novel suffers from a congenital defect (cleft lip), which made it a source of ridicule and persecution by some colleagues, which affected his personal behavior.

And Dr.

Nadia Bouhnad that the novel is wonderful, although its historical period deals with the sixties stage, but many of its events still occur today, including bullying, arrogance, arrogance and a sense of inferiority. All of them are psychological states that exist in abundance, especially among the teenage age groups, so such a novel must be included in the school curriculum The author was able to choose the age stage of 13 years, which is the end of childhood, the beginning of adolescence, questions and the relationship to the environment in the family and society, and the increase in the problems of feeling persecution for some.

She added that the family had to enter the concept of this scar or defect for the child from a young age, to be able to accept himself in society, and to have personality and self-confidence.

Fathia al-Nimr indicated that she knew the term bullying a few years ago, but she knows the phenomenon, but the name is recent, and that the novel discusses serial bullying, and that the hero’s bullying has no reason for it, especially since his bullying was towards someone who helps him, and that the theft in the novel is not justified. The problems have even worsened.

Maitha Al-Ghadeer said that she is against the term bullying, because it has revealed new phenomena about society, and that everyone at various stages has been exposed to this phenomenon, and that this behavior can be evaluated with more awareness, and that shining light on bullying can contribute to the exacerbation of the phenomenon.
