"Expansion of sovereign education from elementary school" Recommended by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Experts Meeting November 3, 5:40

Given that the adult age will be reduced to 18 next year following the voting age, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Council of Experts will educate sovereigns from elementary school in order to get them interested in social movements from an early stage. We have put together a proposal that includes things to promote.

According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Council of Experts, the age at which voting rights can be obtained has been lowered from 20 to 18, while the turnout of 18-year-olds has been declining to 35.62% in the Upper House election last year. As there are issues, we have compiled a proposal for the ideal way of sovereignty education as an interim report.

Among them, it is important to develop the qualities and abilities to participate in the creation of a peaceful and democratic society as a sovereign, and not only high schools but also elementary schools and junior high schools so that they can be interested in social movements from an early stage. From the stage, it is necessary to enhance the instruction beyond the subject, and we recommend the development of practical research and supplementary teaching materials at the model school.

In addition, at home and in the community, we are voting with parents, increasing opportunities for children to work on solving local issues in collaboration with companies and NPOs, and while various information is overflowing on SNS etc. It includes developing teaching methods so that the reliability of information can be judged fairly.

The Council of Experts will continue to consider other issues, such as ensuring political neutrality in the field of education, and will compile a final report.
