In May 1951, when he was only 19 years old, he rushed to the Korean battlefield as a signal soldier.

On October 29th, the reporter met Qi Zhenrong, who is now 90 years old, and listened to him talking about his military life 70 years ago.

Without the machine, then the whole line is disconnected and there is no way to command, so our people protect this machine just like protecting their own lives.
Once, this shell fell 10 meters away from our air-raid shelter. At that time, the line was also broken. We rushed to repair it within 10 minutes.
This is our job. We can get this job up and down in time, and the line will be unblocked, and we will complete the task.
[Commentary] When Qi Zhenrong went to the North Korean battlefield, he had just married his wife for 4 months, but he had been away for more than 3 years and there was no news.
During this period, Qi Zhenrong's worries were on one side, and the burden of taking care of the family on the other. All kinds of pressure made his wife Guo Shuzhi often wash her face in tears.

I have been married to him for 4 months and he has been (on the battlefield). I washed my face with tears and left without a letter. I don't know whether he is alive or dead.
[Commentary] Qi Zhenrong told reporters that in a war, he was responsible for the transmission of strategic information between the command headquarters as a "guard", but at that time, the microphone used for communication suddenly malfunctioned and Qi Zhenrong used it decisively. My own communications expertise solved the problem and ensured the upload and release of wartime information.
It is precisely because of this that Qi Zhenrong won the personal third-class merit in that battle.
[Explanation] Today, Qi Zhenrong is in the second retreat for retired cadres of the army in Hohhot, enjoying his twilight years.
Qi Zhenrong likes to read books and newspapers. Although he is 90 years old, he always cares about national affairs.
In his leisure time, he also plays billiards and chess. In his words, he is an enjoyr and witness of social development.
