Characterized by a novel work analysis backed by a deep and broad culture of all classics, he made outstanding achievements in the study of Japanese poetry and medieval literature, and greatly contributed to the development of Japanese literature.

Jun Kondo (90), an emeritus professor at Toho University who specializes in condensed matter physics.



He has made extremely remarkable achievements in theoretically elucidating the cause of changes in electrical resistance during cooling of metal containing impurities to extremely low temperatures.

Screenwriter Sugako Hashida, who receives the Order of Culture, is 95 years old, born in 1918.



In 1945, he joined the movie company "Shochiku" and started working as a screenwriter. After that, he produced many popular TV dramas as a freelance screenwriter.



In particular, "Oshin," which was broadcast on NHK in 1983, not only received high praise as a nationally popular drama, but was also broadcast worldwide in more than 60 countries and regions, mainly in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It caused a big boom.



In addition, the commercial TV drama "Wataru Seken wa Oni-jitsu" has become a long-lived program that has been broadcast more than 500 times since its broadcast in 1990, incorporating phenomena occurring in society while depicting ordinary everyday life. Kiichi Sumikawa "Study for a lifetime"

Kiichi Sumikawa, a sculptor who receives the Cultural Medal, is from Shimane prefecture and is 89 years old.



After studying sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts, he made his debut in 1959 and received high praise for his series of works called "Sori no Aru Katsura", which is a combination of carved wood into curved shapes.



After that, he won numerous awards for abstract sculpture using stones and metals, and while he was active, he taught younger generations at Tokyo University of the Arts and was also the president of the university from 1995 to 2001.



In addition, he has made many achievements in the design of large-scale buildings in outdoor public spaces, and has worked on the Kawasaki artificial island "Kaze no Tou" on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, the monument of the National Museum of Nature and Science, and the Tokyo Sky Tree. He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1998 and was selected as a Person of Cultural Merit in 2008.
