No improvement in sight in terms of health: 45,422 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in twenty-four hours this Saturday, a new record, while the pressure is still increasing in intensive care, with nearly 2,500 serious cases identified in these services, according to Public Health France.

The number of daily contaminations increased by 3,390 compared to Friday, the day when France crossed the mark of one million confirmed cases since the start of the epidemic.

The death toll has also increased, with 138 new deaths recorded in twenty-four hours (against 298 the day before), the epidemic having killed at least 34,645 people in the country.

2,491 patients in intensive care

The test positivity rate continues to increase to 16%, against 15.1% the day before, and only 4.5% at the beginning of September.

In hospitals, 233 serious new cases were admitted to intensive care in the past 24 hours.

If this figure is down compared to Friday, the total number of people hospitalized in sheaves continues to climb to reach 2,491 serious cases (+59 in twenty-four hours).

The number of intensive care beds is currently around 5,800 but it could rise according to the Minister of Health Olivier Véran to 7,700 in less than 15 days.

At the peak of the epidemic in the spring, more than 7,000 patients with the new coronavirus were in intensive care.

In addition, 1,667 new Covid patients have been hospitalized in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the country to 15,637.

Two in three French people are now subject to the night curfew imposed on 54 departments and Polynesia to curb the spread of the virus.
