  • Season 3 of "La Casa de Papel" returns this Friday on Netflix.

  • The gang of robbers are preparing an even bigger heist to save one of their own, captured.

  • “20 Minutes” met a large part of the team in Rome and Paris.

A real phenomenon!

The Spanish series

La Casa de Papel

is the most watched non-English language program in the world on Netflix.

It is an understatement to say that the third season, which will be available this Friday on Netflix, is awaited by the fans!

Two years after escaping with billions of euros from the Royal House of Mint of Spain, the Professor receives a call: Rio has been captured.

The only way to save him is to reunite Tokyo (Ursula Corbero), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Helsinski (Darko Peric) and Denver (Jaime Lorente) to commit a heist, even bigger than the first.

To carry out their plan, the band will welcome four new members: Marseille (Luka Peros), Bogota (Hovik Keuchkerian) and Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna) and Lisbon (Itziar Ituño).

20 minutes

met the cast of the phenomenon created by Álex Pina in Rome when Season 3 was made official and in Paris just before they robbed the Monnaie de Paris for the preview.

How did you manage your global notoriety after the phenomenal success on Netflix?

Álvaro Morte (known as “the Professor”).

It was crazy!

You get messages on Instagram and Twitter from people all over the world saying they love your job.

It's very strange !

In Spain, you can walk in the street quietly because the Spaniards saw us in other things before

La Casa de Papel,

elsewhere it is different.

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

Yes, in other countries it's different.

Álvaro Morte (known as “the Professor”).

In Rome, for example, we were walking in the streets and people were screaming when they saw us.

It's crazy, but very pleasant because they are messages of love.

We tried to do our best for this series and when you put in the effort, getting such feedback is really cool!

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

So nice !

How did you react when you heard that there would be a season 3?

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

With a lot of emotion and joy!

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

I cried!

It was so wonderful.

When we finished the first two seasons, I was really sad.

We had worked together intensely and daily for eight months, it was hard but at the same time, there was so much love, trust… I felt blessed to have such partners.

I need this to be able to give myself 100%.

They gave me everything I needed.

When my agent called me to tell me he would have a season 3, I said, “Are you serious?

".

"Yes," he replied.

I said, “Oh, my God, I'm so happy!

I can no longer speak, I call you back ”.

It was great news!

Álvaro Morte (known as “the Professor”).

I was on a train between Madrid and Barcelona to go to the set of a movie.

Álex Pina, the creator of the series, called me.

I got it wrong and heard every other word.

I couldn't talk to anyone on this train and it was hard to hide my enthusiasm!

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

When I got the phone call telling me the news, the phone fell out of my hands!

I was delighted for the whole team.

I was also surprised to know that I was going to be there when I thought my character was going to disappear.

It was a double happiness!

Did you feel any pressure after the success of seasons 1 and 2?

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

I was afraid that we would do copy and paste, but less well.

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

Between the phone call and the start of filming, I said to myself: "The plot is complete, it's impossible to do a new season, we're going to screw up".

We have a lot of responsibility and pressure with all this expectation of the public who want something even better.

But from the first day of filming, the fear vanished.

Esther Acebo (Monica).

I also said to myself: "But how are we going to do?

It was perfect, it was a complete storyline ”.

It made me dizzy.

But the writers knew how to conquer us.

When I found out about the script it was working really well and I was like, “Damn, these guys are really great!

"

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

I thought it was an opportunity to satisfy our desire to make a big production, a kind of “after” of this perfect robbery, this time with all the means to reach their end. .

How did the reunion go and the integration of the new ones into the gang?

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

The whole shoot was very strong emotionally.

Esther Acebo (Monica).

In order for a group to function well, it usually takes effort.

With the integration of the new characters, it was even better than before.

For a family to function, there must be a common goal.

We all believed in an absolutely incredible season 3, that's what we wanted.

Our characters are also very united because they all want the same thing.

Palermo, Marseille and Bogota are played by three excellent actors, but also great colleagues, it made the task easy.

We have even more fun with the team as it is today, it brought a breath of fresh air.

Where are your characters at the start of the season?

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

Season 3 takes place two years after Season 2. Arturo has reached the top and is considered a hero.

In the fourth season, but I will say nothing more, he becomes a little more the Arturo of the beginning of the series.

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

Tokyo has lived two idyllic years on a desert island with Rio.

She is happy, in love and has had time to settle down and mature.

Despite everything, she is still addicted to strong emotions, it's a time bomb, and it had to explode.

Esther Acebo (Monica).

My name is now Stockholm, and no longer Monica!

Two years after making this major life-changing decision, she is very happy, feels free, although fleeting.

But when the professor's call rings out, it raises a lot of moral conflict in her.

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

In two years, I evolved in real life, and my character followed.

Stockholm gave birth.

Denver and Arturo became an adoptive father and a biological father… How did you approach this new dimension of your characters?

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

Denver is candid, he does his best with all the love he can, a little awkwardly.

Alas, he's not really someone who knows how to deal with his emotions and he pays the price.

Esther Acebo (Monica).

I am delighted to defend this idea of a woman who is both robber, it's her job, and mom.

Everyone in the couple will face this new situation with their own logic and also with a lot of love.

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

I have no children and have been adopted myself.

The question of the biological child versus the adopted child is a conflict that I experienced when I was young.

Regarding Arturo, I have to defend the biological father he has become.

Personally, I think sometimes the adoptive father can be better than the biological father.

The Professor considers himself part of the “Resistance”, does this third season seem more committed than the first two?

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

We're dealing with a bunch of survivors.

Their whole philosophy revolves around the blow to the system, but it is the need that guides their actions.

The third season is much more based on emotion.

The gang is prepared to spend colossal sums to give the system a bigger blow.

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

Everything is oversized in these new seasons.

The robbery, like production, is more enormous.

The series also addresses a completely different social, political and cultural dimension.

It is an expectation of current society: the adventures of the Professor and his team embody this revolution, which will allow people on their couch to tell themselves that they will be able to resist and fight this system.

We feel that the production has seen the big picture, the action scenes are very numerous ...

Jaime Lorente (Denver).

Yes, there are some very physical episodes.

This is not obvious.

Enrique Arce (Arturo).

The action scenes are so demanding that we sometimes hurt ourselves, to the point of not being able to move for a week.

And we had sometimes difficult times together because of that.

Esther Acebo (Monica).

It is absolutely essential to have an adequate physical condition.

On the set, we are very tired and we are asked for a considerable level of energy and intensity, if we are not prepared, we risk injuries and serious problems, so it's better.

Ursula Corbero (Tokyo).

For Tokyo, I had to train a lot.

In the first episode, viewers will discover a real Lara Croft.

The first two seasons took us a little out of the blue on the physical level, we weren't prepared.

For this third season, we were not caught off guard.

I did intensive training for three or four months to be on top of my game.
