In the era of "mobile phone scan code", how can the elderly enjoy convenience?

Xinhua News Agency, Taiyuan, October 24th, title: In the era of "mobile phone scanning", how can the elderly also enjoy convenience?

Xinhua News Agency "China Cyber Affairs" reporter Liu Xiangxiao

The prevention and control of the epidemic requires the presentation of the health code, and some elderly people can’t find the “code” even after looking through their mobile phones; some scenic spots and subway stations “only support scan code payment”, and some elderly people are helpless with cash; many cities see doctors and buy Train tickets need to be booked with mobile phones, and some elderly people can’t move far away from their children...

Our country has entered an aging society.

In 2019, my country's population of 60 years old and above has increased to 254 million, accounting for 18.1% of the total population.

Some people predict that by 2050, my country's elderly population will increase to 487 million, and the population aging level will rise to about 34.8%.

When the aging society encounters the "mobile phone scanning code era", how can the two go hand in hand, so that the elderly can also enjoy convenience?

On the occasion of the Double Ninth Festival in 2020, the reporter launched an investigation.

Scanning code everywhere, big and small things have become "black eyes"

Not long ago, Mr. Wang, a retired old man from Hohhot, took the subway to the airport. After arriving at the subway station, he found that the manual ticket window was empty.

A passenger reminded him that he must first scan the code through his mobile phone to download the App, and then buy a ticket through the App or scan the code to enter the station.

He had been operating on the phone for a long time, sweating profusely, his blood pressure rose, and he almost missed the plane.

During the National Day, Ms. Zhang, a retired worker from Taiyuan City, visited the Slender West Lake Scenic Area in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province.

After arriving at the scenic spot, I learned that there is no manual ticket window in the scenic spot, and all you need to use your mobile phone to scan the code to make an appointment.

"Fortunately, there are children following, otherwise it is really nervous." 68-year-old Ms. Zhang said.

Due to the epidemic, many parks now require visitors to show their health codes. Because they don’t know how to use smartphones, some elderly people can’t even enter the park gates; they are frequently refused cash when they pay mobile phone bills, take taxis, and go to shops to buy things. ;Because they don’t know how to buy tickets and register with their mobile phones, many elderly people can only go to the train station and the hospital.

A friend of the reporter's hometown is in Shandong, and his parents are getting older.

Some time ago, his mother was ill and wanted to register as an expert, but the old father ran back to the hospital empty-handed.

This friend wanted to register through the WeChat platform, but was prompted that it was a foreign mobile phone number. Only local mobile phone number users can make an appointment.

In desperation, while in Shanxi, he had to call his relatives in Shandong and finally solved the "urgency" at home.

During the reporter's visit, many elderly people lamented that smart phone applications have opened a "quick door" to modern life, but they have blocked many elderly people from being quick.

Multiple factors have hindered services for the elderly

At the beginning of this year, the central bank conducted a sample survey in 7 provinces in my country and obtained more than 20,000 valid questionnaires.

The survey showed that the proportion of respondents who did not use electronic payment tools was 17.6%, and the characteristics of the people were elderly, low education, low income, retirees, and rural areas.

Among them, only 51% of people over 60 use electronic payment.

"Due to various reasons such as physical and mental characteristics, ideological concepts, and knowledge structure, the elderly are weaker in receiving new information and learning new skills, and they are slower to adapt to smart devices and smart life than young people." Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Urban and Population Development Yu Ning, an associate researcher of the Institute, said that especially for the elderly, there are relatively more difficulties in this regard.

She analyzed that in many occasions, smart phones are required to scan codes or download and install apps to carry out corresponding services and operations. However, some products do not take into account the characteristics of the elderly, and the products make it more complicated for the elderly to learn.

Moreover, many elderly people still use "elderly computers", which do not have the code scanning function, let alone other operations.

In fact, a mobile phone suitable for the elderly does not require too many additional functions and high-end configurations, as long as it has basic functions such as QR code payment and App installation and use.

However, during the interview, the reporter found that, at present, there are not many smart phones in the market that meet the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly and are suitable for the elderly.

Due to the excessive functions of the mobile phone, many applications that cannot be uninstalled are even bound to the factory, and the functions commonly used by the elderly cannot be displayed clearly; the font of the mobile phone interface is too small, and the eyesight factors of the elderly are not taken care of.

Some elderly people are worried about being deceived, and they are wary and repulsive about scanning QR codes.

Experts believe that in this case, whether daily travel, medical care, sightseeing, or epidemic prevention and control, we should fully consider the actual situation of more groups, especially the elderly, and make reasonable arrangements.

More small details for the elderly

Interviewees believe that society needs progress, but we should also put ourselves in consideration for the elderly.

While developing intelligent services, we still need to make efforts in many aspects, truly people-oriented, and give more help to the elderly so that they can enjoy basic services and conveniences.

"Family members are very important to the elderly." said Wan Zhao, director of the Office of Rights and Interests Protection of Taiyuan Municipal Committee on Aging. Young people should consciously communicate with their parents and teach them how to bind bank cards and how to set up a small card in the card. Quota.

Hao Jianye, executive deputy director of the Taiyuan Working Committee on Aging, suggested that the role of senior universities, senior activity centers, and volunteer service teams should be used more to provide "fast-track" training for the elderly in the operation of smartphones.

"Older people should respect and love themselves, live to learn, and can't refuse to learn anymore, and strive to know something about smartphones."

For the service unit, Wanzhao also suggested, “Manual service channels need to be reserved appropriately. This is not only beneficial to the elderly, but also can provide services for people who have no battery, owed charges or forgot to bring their mobile phones. These details are services. An important manifestation of quality and level is also an important inspection."
