  • Gérald Darmanin wants to dissolve associations he describes as separatists, including the CCIF.

  • However, he attended a public meeting in 2013 in Tourcoing in the presence of a representative of the CCIF.

  • The spokesperson for LFI jeunesse asks the Minister of the Interior to justify it.

Has Gérald Darmanin changed his opinion about the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF)?

On Monday, in reaction to the Conflans-Sainte-Honorine attack, the current Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, called for the dissolution of several associations he qualifies as separatists, including the CCIF.

The initiative surprised LFI's youth spokesperson, David Guiraud, who questioned the minister's presence at a debate organized in Tourcoing in 2013 in which a representative of the CCIF also participated.

“We would be ambiguous with regard to organizations like the CCIF.

I ask you in this case, sir, why Gérald Darmanin was at a meeting of the CCIF in 2013 if they are really enemies of the Republic ”, launched David Guiraud to the deputy LREM Sylvain Maillard on the antenna of our colleagues of LCI, Tuesday morning.

A debate with but not organized by the CCIF

At the time, Gérald Darmanin was a UMP deputy for the North and he was campaigning to try to wrest the town hall of Tourcoing from the socialist Michel-François Delannoy.

It is in this capacity that he actually attended this famous public meeting.

Except that, as the current mayor of Tourcoing, Doriane Becue, specifies on Twitter, “this debate was not organized by the CCIF”.

An affirmation confirmed thanks to the archives of our colleagues from the

Voix du Nord

who were present that evening.

The Muslim Collective Tourcoing-Vallée de la Lys was in charge and invited, among other people, CCIF spokesperson Marwan Muhammad.

Simple question: in this case, why the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin participated when he was mayor de Tourcoing at a public meeting of the CCIF?

However, why Gérald Darmanin did not boycott the 2013 public meeting knowing that he now qualifies the CCIF as “enemy of the Republic”?

At the time, the collective was already celebrating its ten years of existence, the latter having been founded in 2003. Nevertheless, it remained rather discreet, at least until it launched, in 2011, a communication campaign to fight against Islamophobia.

The posters represented the monotheistic religions associated with different republican symbols under the slogan "We are also the Nation".

The Parisian transport authority (RATP) refused to display this campaign in the metro under the principle of neutrality and secularism.

For the gala dinner organized on the occasion of the ten years of the collective, which was held on May 31, 2013 in Paris, one of the distinguished guests was the Islamologist Tariq Ramadan.

The latter also featured prominently on the posters announcing the event.

The man's positions were already controversial, especially when in 2003, during a televised debate with Nicolas Sarkozy, he refused to speak out clearly for the prohibition of the stoning of women who have committed adultery.

Is this enough to accuse Gérald Darmanin of ambiguity in relation to the CCIF as implied by the youth spokesperson for LFI?

At the 2013 public meeting, there was no debate between the representative of the collective and the deputy from the North.

Everyone spoke in turn and Gerald Darmanin was content to declare that "

the Republic must apply to all

" and that the Nation must "

recognize its children, without distinction

 " wrote the

.

"Nothing to take away from the comments made seven years ago [by Gerald Darmanin]", concluded Doriane Becue still on Twitter.
