Nagasu Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, is known as a goldfish producing area, and 14 aquaculture companies produce a total of 450,000 goldfish annually.



Most of these are goldfish scooping varieties, but according to the town, due to the influence of the new coronavirus, summer festivals and events have been canceled one after another, and shipments have dropped by about 90% compared to the average year.



For this reason, in order to support producers, the town began an initiative in September to purchase goldfish and distribute it free of charge to local governments and schools that want it, along with a set of goldfish scooping and an aquarium containing ornamental goldfish. It was.

At the local nursery school, two town officials delivered 200 goldfish such as Koaka and Demekin, which are about 4 cm in length, and a tool called "poi" for scooping goldfish with Japanese paper.



About 30 children experienced goldfish scooping around a 1-meter aquarium, and the girl who scooped one said, "It was fun. The place where the goldfish swim is cute."
