Athletes are looking for new ways to raise human capabilities to their maximum limits, which makes it imperative for them to know the limits that they must cross, so a team of researchers from the National University of Singapore has developed a smart suit that operates a smartphone to provide athletes with physiological information, such as body position, gait and temperature while they exercise.

Current technologies used to monitor athletes' performance range from wearable fitness trackers to various clinical monitoring equipment.

Fitness trackers are small and light, but they collect data from one point in the body, which limits the amount of information they provide.

Conversely, clinical monitoring equipment includes many sensors that collect data from various points on the athlete's body, but they need connections that intertwine with each other, and are difficult to wear outside due to their size and weight.

The ideal system for researchers collects data from multiple sensors from various points in an outdoor environment, taking into account the problems of size and weight.

The team, which published its research results in the journal Nature Communications, took two years to develop this technology, after proving the possibility of converting a smartphone's near field communication signal to different locations on the body using specially designed stimulation patterns.
