On 21 August, the government presented a proposal to introduce facilities for major cultural and sporting events with a seated audience.

The proposal was intended to become a reality on 1 October.

The public health authority later proposed that the ceiling be set at 500 people.

"Not excluded in the future"

But now the audience relief seems to be lingering.

- The message is that today the government has not made the decision.

It's probably going to be tight, I agree.

But that does not mean that the issue is excluded in the future, says Lena Hallengren at the government's press conference.

The reason is that they seem to see an increased spread of infection in Sweden and Europe.

- The consultation response we received from the Swedish Public Health Agency was on the condition that the spread of infection was kept at a low level.

Now we are in a situation where we do not know where it is going.

The answer to the organizers

The Prime Minister was also asked how the organizers who planned for relief from 1 October will now reason.

- Of course we want to make people's everyday lives easier.

We are not doing anything to make it difficult for people, but right now we have a pandemic that is far from over.

When we have made a decision, we will return, says Stefan Löfven.
