At present, there are 140 names in the Northwest Pacific Typhoon Naming Table, which are provided by 14 members, and each member provides 10 names.

When a typhoon causes a huge loss to a member, or when a member thinks that the name may not have been considered at the time, it can apply to the Typhoon Committee to permanently remove the typhoon.

From 2000 to 2019, 51 names were delisted by the Typhoon Committee, 43 of which were delisted because of the serious disasters caused.

[Explanation] Typhoon No. 26 in 2018 "Yutu" caused serious disasters in the US Mariana Islands, the Philippines and other places. The 52nd session of the Typhoon Committee decided to delist it and asked China to submit a new typhoon name to fill the vacancy. .

To this end, the Central Meteorological Observatory launched the "I Name the Typhoon" campaign on Weibo to solicit new names from the public.

The Chinese name you say you can't make it too long, you can't make it 4 characters, right, two characters, three characters, not one character, it does not conform to the Chinese name expression.

Catchy, convenient for media broadcasting.

Commercial brand names cannot be used, and cannot be repeated with previous or current names, and pronunciation cannot be repeated.

Last time there was a name that was also picked up by netizens, called Pippi Shrimp, which was not rigorous and a bit entertaining.

[Explanation] At the meeting, experts also analyzed the characteristics of typhoon activities in 2020.

Since 2020, the number of typhoons generated and landed on has been low, and the number of typhoons affecting Northeast China has been relatively high.

In addition, he reminded the public that although autumn has arrived and the main flood season is about to pass, all localities still cannot relax their vigilance against autumn typhoons.

The four names of our China have been replaced. They are all typhoons that occurred in October and later and have an effect. That is to say, we must pay attention to the disasters of autumn typhoons.

Although it is possible that the main flood season may soon be over, but for typhoons, especially autumn typhoons, we still strictly guard against the disaster losses caused by autumn typhoons. We still have to wait for it, take strict precautions, and take seriously the forecast, warning and service of each typhoon.
