The current situation of the pandemic is "very worrying", health professionals believe that

the management of the crisis is "improvable" and that it should be guided by clinical criteria

;

authorities and politicians have to "react" and "act responsibly", and citizens must collaborate "to avoid a new overflow of the health system".

This diagnosis, which, in the current context, is shared by more and more voices, acquires special relevance when it is signed by no less than

55 Spanish scientific societies representing 171,656 health professionals

, and they do it as the culmination of the I National Congress Covid-19, which is held It has been held virtually since last September 13 and today it was closed with the participation of Silvia Calzón, Secretary of State for Health.

This manifesto "has some signatories with sufficient moral authority to demand that their recommendations be at least taken into consideration," the text emphasizes.

The document is expressly addressed to "all people and institutions that have political responsibilities in the management of the pandemic", and asks them to be guided "by strictly sanitary criteria, both in their public manifestations and in decision-making," and that

procedures are established between scientists

and political decision-making centers to guarantee that "the measures and strategies adopted respond to the best evidence."

Health professionals directly appeal to "the responsibility" of public representatives "to achieve a climate of dialogue and consensus that allows the best decisions and strategies to be adopted", and to improve future actions "without recrimination."

They demand "a national minimum protocol" that establishes common basic criteria throughout the National Health System (SNS) in terms of "prevention measures, management of infected patients, tracking strategies and management of socio-health centers", and that crisis managers be provided with "the legal, technical and administrative tools necessary to implement Public Health measures quickly".

Where is the coordination?

The principle of equity -which, in theory, governs the operation of the SNS- should materialize, according to the signatory companies, in equal access throughout Spain to "preventive strategies and health resources".

In this sense, they consider essential the creation of a

"national strategic reserve of material destined for both prevention and treatment"

, which implies "strengthening and reinforcing" -or, rather, making real- the coordination mechanisms between the Government central and the 17 autonomous governments.

This reserve of material would guarantee, among other things, "the access of all citizens to the most appropriate health, preventive and therapeutic resources required by their clinical situation, regardless of their age, cultural or socio-economic level and place of residence" .

And all this without forgetting that it is of

"vital importance" to minimize the impact of the pandemic

"in health care for patients with other pathologies and serious health problems."

The specialists also appeal to citizens and the media.

The former are urged to comply with all the recommendations and restrictions issued by the health authorities, and emphasize that "there is no justification for the behavior of those people who, by avoiding isolation measures, put the health and life of the people in their work, social and family environment ".

They ask the media and "opinion leaders" for

"commitment and involvement in the fight against misinformation

, the generation of false news and denialist campaigns" so that, when the time comes, "they influence the importance of vaccination".
