“I will be uncompromising on the need to respect barrier gestures. The mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi has decided to impose the wearing of masks in several very busy areas of the city center of the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes. “We are seeing an increase in cases [of coronavirus] in France and around the world. It is imperative that everyone scrupulously respects barrier gestures: wearing a mask, social distancing or even regular hand washing, ”explains the elected Republicans.

A fine of 35 euros

Wearing a mask will now be compulsory between 10 am and 1 am in a perimeter "which goes from Gambetta to the west, the Thiers station to the north, Barla to the east and the port to Magnan to the south", specifies Christian Estrosi. Only children under 11 can go out without a mask.

Violators incur a fine of 35 euros. The municipal decree is currently taken until August 7, but could be extended if necessary.

Terraces under threat

The town hall of Nice also indicates that it has called 23 bars and restaurants to order. Their terraces risk being removed if they do not respect sanitary rules.

We are working with @CHUdeNice to test an olfactory screening and to contribute to the study conducted by researchers from the chemistry institute of # Nice06. I also support the tests that will be conducted at @AeroportNice by providing administrative staff. pic.twitter.com/WwSeacXbDW
