The manned Space X spacecraft returned safely to Earth on Sunday, after a two-month flight, on the first mission of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from US soil nine years ago.

A new Crew Dragon capsule, owned by SpaceX, landed in the Gulf of Mexico, using parachutes to slow it down, with American astronauts Bob Pinkin and Dag Hurley on board, ending the toughest part of the flight today.

The rescue ship GO Navigator moved to move the astronauts out of the water. American media was reporting live on the spacecraft's landing and rescue operation.

The first words the astronauts heard from the control room were "Thank you for flying in SpaceX".

After the landing, two boats turned around the Crew Dragon capsule to check for no toxic fumes, while another team was working to pull the spacecraft 'awnings.
