Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies in "The Crown". - Sophie Mutevelian / Netflix

The "tea time" will wait a little longer. At the end of the year, Netflix is expected to offer the fourth season of The Crown , the British series featuring the life of England's Queen Elizabeth II. The 1980s of the royal family will be told there, with the arrival of Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana. Once these new episodes are bingewatched by fans, the series will take a long hiatus before the fifth season goes live.

According to Deadline's information , production will not turn on the cameras this year. It is therefore from June 2021 that Imelda Staunton, the unforgettable Dolores Ombrage in Harry Potter , will place the crown on her head. With this late filming, Netflix will not be able to offer season 5 of The Crown until 2022. According to the American site, the filming schedule has not, however, been changed due to the coronavirus.

A first two-year break between seasons 2 and 3

This long hiatus is also nothing new for the series. Almost two years had already passed between seasons 2 and 3, proposed in December 2017 and November 2019 respectively. This will therefore leave more time for Netflix subscribers to enjoy the last two seasons, the sixth of which was made official by Peter Morgan, the creator of the series, in early July. “When we started to tell the stories of season 5, it became very clear that to capture all the complexity and richness of this story, we had to go back to our original goal of six seasons,” he explained.
