  • Today, "Le Réveil des Légendes - L'Etoile Flamboyante" by Sophie Ginisty, winner of the Grand Prix 404 and published on June 4, 2020.

Anne-So Echos de Mots, youth literary blogger and contributor to the reading group "20 Minutes Books", recommends Le Réveil des Légendes - L'Etoile Flamboyante by Sophie Ginisty, published on June 4, 2020 by Éditions 404.

His favorite quote:

I didn't need a light to see in the dark, an elven gift that still brought us closer to animals, said some humans. But it was all pure jealousy, or fear of the unknown, I was sure. Whatever happens, I would have preferred to be born an animal rather than live like them.

Why this book?

  • Because this novel is the big winner of the 2019 edition of Grand Prix 404. To immerse yourself in this story is to embark on a hectic but oh so captivating journey, with characters engaging with the psychology worked with finesse by Sophie Ginisty.
  • Because the intrigue takes place in a rich and complex universe. The reader meets there Ieven, an orphan half-elf because victim of the policy of the only child who reigns in the north of the Empire. Raised in the city of Barantil, the largest in the lower territory of Gaia, Ieven has always thought of this twin whom he does not know and who he is determined to find. However, the hero will be dispatched by Djalil, the head of the militia, to carry an important missive from the governor to Aadyn, which represents weeks, even months of travel.
  • Because during this trip, many pitfalls will arise on the way to Ieven. Unfortunately, he will have no other choice but to succeed in the mission entrusted to him or else Djalil will attack his adoptive mother. The half-elf route will meet those of more or less peaceful acquaintances and more or less welcoming places. All the meetings that the reader will have with the hero will add to the construction of the latter.
  • Because Le Réveil des Légendes is one of those incredibly complete fantasy novels , in which everything seems to be thought out down to the smallest detail and with great care. The author leaves nothing to chance and offers us a novel worked with great care, with well-thought-out mythology and a busy history which is revealed sparingly so as to fascinate the reader without ever suffocating him. The content is terribly dense and, the fact that it is difficult to summarize it, proves that you will not be bored for a second during your reading so many twists and turns.
  • Because writing in the relevant tone sounds really right , even if it is sometimes very raw (watch out for the youngest, therefore). The work is fascinating, complete, rhythmic, and this first volume promises an absolutely crazy suite already awaited, for my part, with great impatience.

The essential in 2 minutes

The intrigue.  Ieven has had only one goal since his childhood: to find the twin from whom he was taken, thus making prevail the law of the only child who reigns over Gaia. Until this day, Ieven hires his services as a guide for all those who would like to venture into the Lowlands ...

Characters.  Ieven is a half-elf and, as such, is considered a waste of society. It gives a feeling of quiet strength but represses a lot of painful feelings. His best friend, Gaël, a poet thief with a well-hung tongue, is the only one who sees him beyond appearances.

Places.  The story takes place in much of the Empire of Gaia; from the city of Barantil to Aadyn, passing through the desert of As'sahra.

The time.  The wanderings of Ieven, his clients and Gaël take place over several months.

The author.  Sophie Ginisty is a French author who signs, with Le Réveil des Légendes, her first novel. She started writing it in 2011 and submitted it in 2019 to the 404 Factory collaborative writing site for the Grand Prix du Roman 404, which she also won.

This book was read with  pleasure by Anne-So Echos de Mots, blogger specializing in children's and teenage literature. “For me, reading can be as much a personal pleasure in which one runs to take refuge as an excuse to exchange and meet other readers. I am a lover of words always interested in new discoveries. "
