The new Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot is "fully mobilized" to find solutions to the deep crisis in which culture is plunged due to the epidemic of Covid-19, she stressed Friday in Strasbourg.
For her first trip to the region, Roselyne Bachelot chose the Alsatian capital, as her predecessor Franck Riester had done. Accompanied in particular by Jack Lang, she visited the cathedral with the new environmental mayor Jeanne Barseghian, before attending in a college a meeting of "The crossing of summer", an operation led by the National Theater of Strasbourg (TNS) and its director Stanislas Nordey.

"Culture is undergoing an unimaginable economic and artistic disaster," said the minister, in office since Monday. “A sector like live performance, it's minus 72% of turnover, it's a dreadful drama. We have not yet realized it because we are under the anesthesia of what has been mobilized by the government, but it cannot last. "
Roselyne Bachelot stressed that in addition to the 5 billion euros in aid already provided, "in the amending finance law an additional 1.6 billion will be given to the culture sector".
“This absolute emergency is the one that mobilizes me on a daily basis. Tomorrow there will be a government seminar, this is the first thing that I will highlight: I think there is room for maneuver if everyone is reasonable, "she said.

Asked if her notoriety and political weight could help her in her new role, Roselyne Bachelot paid tribute to her predecessors. Then she added: "I hope that the love I have for artists, for culture, for the knowledge I have of the most intimate machinery of the State, having exercised the highest functions there in different positions. , will be used to exit the files and to win arbitrations. In any case, that is what I am trying to do ”.
For his part, Stanislas Nordey was delighted with this appointment of Roselyne Bachelot to Culture: “What is good is that it is someone who will have weight in Bercy, and that for us, c "is most important, to have a Minister of Culture who defends his budgets," he said.
