Its release was scheduled for April 29. It was postponed to May 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Woody Allen's autobiography, By the way , won't be available in French bookstores until June 3, Stock editions announce.

The American director's book was released in the United States on March 23, at Arcade Publishing, after many twists and turns. Its traditional publisher, Grand Central Publishing, a subsidiary of the Hachette group, had refused publication after protests from some of its employees and from Ronan Farrow, the filmmaker's son.

At issue, the charges laid by the director's adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. She claims to have been sexually abused by Woody Allen in 1992, when she was 7 years old. The 84-year-old filmmaker has denied the accusations.

Woody Allen has not been the subject of an indictment or a trial, but his reputation has been tarnished in the United States as a result of this matter. His latest film, A Rainy Day in New York, did not hit American theaters.

"There is nothing sulfurous in the book"

By the way, is the story of Woody Allen's personal and professional life. The artist looks back on his career in cinema, on television, on the club scene as well as on his work as a writer, says his editor.

"There's nothing sour in the book," recently told the World Manuel Carcassonne, Stock boss editions recalling that justice has "fully exonerated twice" the filmmaker. "There is no legal or moral problem in publishing and supporting it," he said.
