• First protests: The cultural industry loses patience with the government and calls for concrete measures such as in France and Germany
  • "Blackout". The sector in full accuses the Minister of Culture of "twitching" and the actors promote a "cultural blackout"

The Minister of Culture and Sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has been forced to announce a "next" meeting with the cultural sector together with the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to respond to the wave of criticism he has received from numerous collectives and creators in the last days.

This Thursday, fifty associations and unions of the performing arts, music, cinema and cultural management accused Uribes of "twitching the spirits" of the industry by ruling out the adoption of specific measures to alleviate the crisis in the sector. In addition, they asked him to agree with the sector on the 52 measures that have been sent to him and urge him to study them and give them a "real and effective" response and confirm which ones will be applied, in what way and in what time frames.

On the other hand, the Union of Actors called a 48-hour "cultural blackout" that is being held this Friday and Saturday.

The ministers of Culture and Finance will previously hold a meeting with the third vice president and minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño , the Ministry has reported in a note. The objective of this ministerial meeting, according to said note, is to prepare the meeting "with the cultural sector and study the proposals they have sent so far."

During the press conference this Friday after the extraordinary Council of Ministers, Montero has indicated that "the Government is aware of the extreme difficulties we are experiencing" and, therefore, will study "their uniqueness so that they can benefit from the adapted general measures to your profile that have already been launched or that may be designed or applied in the future. "

Discontent spread among artists, actors, musicians, managers, filmmakers, writers and associations of all kinds from the cultural industries on Tuesday after the press conference of the Minister of Culture. In it, Uribes did not make any announcement of specific aid to the sector, or new administrative facilities or plans to promote culture.

As for the meeting, Montero has indicated that it will serve to know "the peculiarities of the sector to put at your disposal many of the general measures that for some reasons do not seem to be fully adapted to its format." "You have to put the magnifying glass, if you allow me the microscope, to see if in certain sectors there is any impediment or singularity that does not allow taking advantage of global instruments," he added, to indicate that "they will then act accordingly."
