At the same time, the Chongqing Department of Eco-Environment also investigated and dealt with 681 cases of environmental violations, and closed down 27 operators who had problems with the illegal discharge of sewage.
Chongqing is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the heartland of the Three Gorges Reservoir area, occupying more than 85% of the area of the Three Gorges Reservoir area, and the main river of the Yangtze River in the territory is 691 kilometers, which is the last barrier of the ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In April 2019, Chongqing issued the city ’s No. 1 general river chief order, deciding to carry out a special rectification operation for sewage stolen and direct discharge.

After nearly a year of special rectification, the water quality of the Chongqing section of the main stream of the Yangtze River in 2019 was excellent, and the proportion of the 42 sections that were included in the national assessment reached 97.6%, up 7.1% year-on-year. Chongqing has completely eliminated the inferior five types of sections, and the quality of the water environment has been greatly improved.
Liu Qin, head of the Chongqing Municipal Environmental Protection Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Corp., introduced that this special rectification action will focus on ten key aspects this year, including the second round of central ecological environmental protection supervision feedback on water-related issues; 2019 Yangtze River Economic Belt Ecological Environment Problems exposed by the warning film; problems found in the special action of the Yangtze River estuary sewage discharge inspection and remediation; problems found in the special action of remediation of the secret discharge of wastewater in 2019; wastewater from medical institutions (including hospitals and clinics); car wash wastewater; food and beverage industry wastewater ; Urban sewage treatment facilities, township sewage treatment facilities and park sewage treatment facilities; chemical enterprises within 1 km of the main stream of the Yangtze River and the main tributaries, the sewage concentration in Wanzhou District, Fuling District, Changshou District Chemical Park and Jiangjin District Industrial Cluster Treatment facilities; national and municipal-level water quality assessment sections that do not meet the standards, or regional watersheds where the water quality has dropped significantly.
