An environmentalist who is based in Nagano Prefecture and has been committed to protecting forests and ecosystems. W. Nicole died of rectal cancer on the 3rd. 79 years old.
Nicole was born in Wales, England, and worked as an engineer at the Canadian Fisheries Research Agency on marine mammals.After moving to the Kurohime Kogen in Nagano Prefecture in the 1980s, he continued writing.
Having a sense of danger in the deforestation of the forest, he worked to regenerate the forest by purchasing primeval forests and thinning. He has also been active in ecosystem protection activities, and has appeared on many TV programs and commercials as an environmental protection activist, calling on the importance of nature conservation.
Focusing on the reconstruction activities following the Great East Japan Earthquake, Miyagi Prefecture also worked on building a forest school where children affected by the disaster could learn in nature and take care of their hearts.
In 2005, the United Kingdom received the British Medal of Honor.
