The old station building of the JR Chuo Line / National Station, built in 1923, was characterized by a red triangle roof, and was popular as a symbol of the area. Was dismantled.

Voices from all over the country were asked to rebuild, so the Kunitachi City was rebuilt as a station to recreate the station building at the time of its opening and as a base to communicate the charm of the city.

The new facility, built at the south exit of Kunitachi Station, has a total floor area of about 200 square meters and reuses much of the material from the former station building.

The semi-circular windows create the atmosphere of the Taisho era, and the wooden ticket gates and ticket office windows at that time are reproduced. This space can be used for events, breaks and meetings. An exhibition room that introduces the history of the old station building and a tourist information center are also set up, and the Kunitachi City hopes to use it as a base for walking around the city.

The maintenance cost is about 370 million yen, and the donation of about 180 million yen collected from all over Japan for hometown tax payments is also allocated.

Local shops have been welcoming, saying, "The symbol of the area has returned" to rebuild the "red triangle roof" that has been popular for many years.

The long-established confectionery store `` Hakusho '' located on `` Daigaku-dori '' in front of the station has been selling Madeleine with a station building designed on wrapping paper since its establishment 65 years ago, and also newly shaped the station building in line with this reconstruction. We also sell chocolates and cakes.

Former National Station Building Chief Coordinator of Kunitachi City, planning events and other events, says, "We want to create a space where people of various generations can make the most of the charm of the city and talk about memories of the past, and interact."
