Bill Withers, soul figure and author of eternal songs like Ain't No Sunshine or Lean on Me , died today Friday at the age of 81 in Los Angeles (USA) with heart problems.

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved and devoted husband and father. A lonely man with a heart aimed at connecting with everyone; he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other with his poetry and music, " he has remembered his family in a statement collected by US media such as Rolling Stone.

With a very brief and unique career, almost limited to the 70's, Withers made a very important niche in soul with a warm, intimate and very personal look at this genre that was called folk-soul. Some of his songs have known multiple versions and have been part of the soundtrack of various films.
