Containment to combat the spread of the coronavirus is endangering the hundreds of animals from the menagerie in Villers-en-Ouche (Orne). Michelle Royère, the manager of this breeding, explains to Actu.fr that it is increasingly difficult to take care of her camels, dromedaries, llamas, donkeys, and other yaks and zebu.

Sanitary measures have in fact led to the cancellation of events or filming in which these animals participate. "Without activity, I have difficulty paying the bills (...) But the problem here is that we have animals to feed and which must be taken care of," said the owner to the local news site.

Activity to resume in March

Activity was due to resume in March but "because of the coronavirus, everything fell into the water," she continues, indicating that she has "no visibility over the time that it will all last". Michelle Royère fears that her residents will suffer from hunger or illness. She should also have vaccinated her twenty donkeys during this period.

“Here, even when the animals are too old to shoot or go for a walk with the children, we keep them with us. It is out of the question that my animals end up in the butchery, ”she concludes.
