The objective is to ensure that "no student in need is left behind". The Minister of Higher Education Frédérique Vidal announced this Tuesday to release "10 million additional euros" for the funding of specific emergency aid allocated by the Regional Centers for University Works (Crous).

The university residences managed by the Crous remain open to accommodate students who have not been able to reach their family home as they were invited to do with the implementation of containment measures. "The ministry is mobilizing (...) to find concrete solutions to the difficulties encountered by students, often aggravated by the current situation, especially for those who, due to confinement, have lost a student job or an internship," writes the ministry. of Higher Education in a press release.

Food purchasing cards

In addition to the funding of “actions in favor of student health, this new use of the student life and campus contribution (CVEC) will be primarily allocated to the satisfaction of food needs while university catering services had to be temporarily interrupted ”. “Food purchasing cards or the funding of social and solidarity grocery stores” will be implemented.

Will the aid also be allocated "to the financing of IT tools or Internet access"? It will also make it possible to “financially support students who had, before the crisis, a student job or a gratified internship on which they depended to meet their needs when they do not already benefit from the transversal devices implemented by the government (partial unemployment or assistance to self-entrepreneurs in particular) ".

In mid-March, measures had already been announced to support students facing the coronavirus epidemic, such as the cancellation of April rents for those who left their accommodation in a university residence.
