A decision due to the breach of containment. Access to the beaches of the entire French Mediterranean arc and Corsica is prohibited from Thursday as part of preventive measures against the new coronavirus, told AFP the prefect of the defense and security zone South Pierre Dartout. The beaches must remain deserted and controls are planned to enforce this measure.

This decision was taken Thursday morning by the prefects of the regions of Corsica, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Occitanie because "we found that there were too many people on the beaches," said Pierre Dartout.

Prohibition until the end of confinement

"Exceptional outings must be brief outings, close to the home, but it has been observed that on the beaches there were sometimes gatherings, sometimes occupations for long hours," said the prefect of Corsica Franck Robine. He specified that the order made by the prefects concerned would be in force "until the end of the confinement period".

In Hérault, where the ban is already in force, in addition to the seaside beaches, access to the beaches on the shores of the artificial Salagou lake is also prohibited. In the Alpes-Maritimes, it is also impossible to walk on the dikes, rocks and coves. Wednesday, access to the Calanques park near Marseille, popular with hikers, boaters and joggers, had already been prohibited. Similar orders have been issued in France.
