In Bordeaux, controls will be reinforced on the quays. - Marion Pignot

  • In Gironde, police and gendarmes have so far raised awareness. But faced with the diehards who have chosen to ignore the risks associated with the coronavirus epidemic, the police will "harden their tone".
  • While travel on beaches and coastal paths is now prohibited, controls will multiply on the beaches.
  • Two squadrons of gendarmerie will operate in Gironde and the fines of 135 euros should "finish sending the messages" to the most unruly.

21,711 vehicles and 3,538 pedestrians checked, 144 reports drawn up, including 124 for the Bordeaux police area ... In Gironde, the police have so far done prevention and education but faced with the few diehards who have chosen to ignore the risks associated with the coronavirus epidemic, they will "tomorrow harden the tone", warned, this Thursday, Olivia Poupot, commander of the gendarmerie group of Gironde.

In Bordeaux, first, where the Garonne quays were forbidden access until March 31. Barriers will be installed at each access with display of the decree which came into force on Thursday. Ditto on the beaches, while the prefect of New Aquitaine, Fabienne Buccio, has just signed the text prohibiting access to the trails and forests of the region's coast until the end of the month [except for demanding professional activities immediate proximity to water].

On the beach, controls will therefore be reinforced. "With essentially verbalizations, people have nothing to do on the beach, this is not where we do our food shopping," slides Fabienne Buccio.

"The controls will go crescendo"

And to enforce this tightening confinement, between nearly 90 patrols (three police officers each) cover the Bordeaux area and a dozen those of Arcachon. Five gendarmerie squadrons (115 men and women) are deployed in the Southwest. Two crisscross Charente-Maritime "with the needs that we know on the island of Ré and Oléron", two others the Gironde "mainly the beaches", another the Landes and a last the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Finally, CRS reinforce the workforce in Gironde and on the beaches of Biarritz.

“There is a great temptation to go to the beach on sunny days, but the checks will go up. We will have a firm posture because far too many people confined together are still doing activities with others. It is not the principle of containment. We stay at home and only one person is allowed to go out, ”says Olivia Poupot. And to add: “We will focus our actions on those who gather on the beach or go shopping with families or who are miles from home. "

Our file on the coronavirus

The fines of 135 euros should "finish sending the messages" to the most unruly. This while there are fewer “information” calls made to the operational center of the department. Still, those passed to 17 do not decrease. More than 1,200 calls are made every day, up from 600 usually. Many for fuss or marital conflicts.
