8.57 Fifth positive for coronavirus in Asturias
The Ministry of Health the Principality has reported that a 48-year-old man is the fifth person who has tested positive for Covid-19 in Asturias . Health has applied the isolation protocol as to the other four patients.

8.24 Identify two coronavirus strains
Scientists in China studying the coronavirus epidemic have discovered two major strains of the virus that causes infection in humans. Researchers at the University of Beijing and the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai warn that their study has only examined a limited range of data and that monitoring studies of larger datasets are needed to improve understanding of how the virus evolves, reports Reuters
The preliminary study has determined that the most aggressive strain of coronavirus is the one that affects approximately 70% of the cases analyzed, while 30% have a less aggressive type. The prevalence of the most aggressive type of virus has decreased since the beginning of January, they say.
2.30 State of emergency in California
The governor of California, Gavin Newsom , declared the state of emergency after the first death reported in the state: an elderly adult (no sex required), who was allegedly exposed to the virus on a cruise ship that departed from San Francisco to Mexico .
Newsom, who sent his condolences to his family, said that another patient who traveled on the same ship is under observation in a delicate state.
More than 50 people are infected in California , the highest number in the United States.
1.20 Coronavirus causes 31 more deaths in China
The deaths by COVID-19 in China increased in the last 24 hours in 31 people - 7 deaths less than in the previous day count - to add a total of 3,012 deaths, the National Health Commission reported today.
According to the latest official data, 139 new confirmed cases were also counted - for the 119 of the previous day -, which brings the number of infected so far in China to 80,409 .
All deaths were recorded in the province of Hubei , the focus of the epidemic, which accounted for 134 cases of the 139 new ones, so only five new infected were detected in the rest of China.
To date in Hubei there have been 2,902 deaths and 67,466 confirmed cases of infection.
Of the last 31 deaths in Hubei, 23 took place in its capital, Wuhan , which has been in quarantine since January 23.
The National Health Commission also reported today that in the same 24-hour period 2,189 people were discharged after overcoming the disease.
00.30 The balance of deaths from coronavirus rises to 11 in the US
Two deaths from the new coronavirus were reported on Wednesday in the United States, raising the balance in this country to 11 where Congress plans to approve resources for more than 8,000 million dollars to deal with the epidemic.
