The book "Soumission", by Michel Houellebecq, which sparked controversy when it was released in January 2015, will be adapted to the cinema. The story tells of a France marked by the coming to power of a president member of a Mulsulman political party, and is narrated by a depressed academic, who will be embodied by Jean-Paul Rouve

The book was controversial when it was released, what will happen to its film adaptation? Submission by Michel Houellebecq will be shown on the big screen. The novel, which tells in the near future a France marked by the arrival at the Elysee Palace of a president from a Muslim political party. All editions combined, nearly 800,000 copies have been sold in the French-speaking world. In Germany, Soumission had exceeded 520,000 copies, confirming that "the terrible child of French literature" is also one of the most widely read abroad.

Shooting planned in September 2020

The story, which caused a stir when the book came out on the day of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, is told by a narrator, François, a depressed academic. This main character will be played by Jean-Paul Rouve, also seen in Le Sens de la fête or Les Tuche . This is the only name we know for now. Casting is still in progress, while filming should begin in September 2020.

In the making of the feature film, we will find Guillaume Nicloux, who knows Michel Houellebecq well since he made it turn several times: for TV in The abduction of Michel Houellebecq and The Gordji affair: history of a cohabitation , and also at the cinema more recently in Thalasso… opposite Gérard Depardieu.
