In a wind farm. Drawing. - FREDERIC SCHEIBER / 20 MINUTES

Three griffon vultures, two swallows, two melodious linottes, six pipistrelles… Here is an extract from the sad inventory drawn up by France nature environment (FNE) of the birds and bats mowed in full flight by blades of wind turbines on the side of Sévérac-le -Château, in Aveyron.

The collective of environmental associations relies on the results provided by a research firm on the Montfrech wind farm. He recorded 17 cases of bird mortality, and 14 bat deaths in 2019 alone.

FNE notes that this park "does not benefit from any environmental authorization to harm protected animal species" and that it does not deploy measures to limit the impact of the blades, such as scaring for example.

"Faced with this unacceptable situation", a complaint against X therefore filed for the destruction of protected birds and the prefect of Aveyron alerted so that he "gave notice" to the operator of the park to act. FNE obviously specifies that it supports wind energy but "only if it respects ecological transparency".

"The stated objective of the development of wind power is the ecological transition but often purely financial interests hide behind this virtuous intention", underlines Thierry de Noblens, the president of FNE Midi-Pyrénées. "Operators must imperatively take measures to avoid the mortality" of birds and bats, he adds.

Contacted, the operator of the Montfrech wind farm did not respond to our requests.
