Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson in “Un jour si blanc” by Hlynur Palmason - Urban Distribution

  • In "Un jour si blanc", an inconsolable widower seeks meaning in his life.
  • Ingvar Eggert Sigurðson brings great sensitivity to his character.
  • The Icelandic landscapes give the impression of being haunted while the character is reborn.

If Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson did not exist, Un jour si blanc by Hlynur Palmason would not have the same charm. The Icelandic comedian brings a communicative melancholy to his inconsolable widower character after the accident that cost his wife his life.

"This film could not have been shot elsewhere than in Iceland, but its tone would have been different as the country is part of the narration, confides to 20 Minutes the charismatic actor already seen in Everest by Baltasar Kormákur, L'Effet aquatic by Solveig Anspach and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Gridelwald by David Yates where he plays Grimmson.

An old expression

"The title of the film comes from an old Icelandic expression," says Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson. It is said that when everything is so white that heaven and earth seem to touch, we can communicate with the dead. This is what his character, eager to find meaning in the disappearance of his wife, is trying to do at the risk of sinking into madness. "It represents a generation of Icelanders who were unable to show their feelings," he adds.

Haunt and rebirth

Emotion looms in the eyes of the broken man as he moves through landscapes so foggy that one might think they are haunted. "I don't know why people have a sinister image of Iceland," laughs the actor. Our region is joyful and the people there are warm! This atypical film takes the viewer on the trail of his hero who is slowly reborn. As for Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson, he will find the director of Un jour si blanc for a new adventure.
