German nutritionist Harald Zeitz confirmed that lycopene has several health benefits, noting that it helps prevent heart disease and cancer.

Zeits explained that lycopene is among the antioxidants that fight what are known as Free Radicals, which attack DNA, and raise the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Lycopene helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays, even if it does not replace sunscreen.

Zeites pointed out that the nutritional sources of lycopene are tomatoes, especially tomato paste, tomato juice, as well as watermelon, red carrots and red pepper.
