In a tense atmosphere, thousands of firefighters marched this Tuesday in the streets of Paris to denounce the lack of staff and recognition of their profession and claim guarantees for their retirement. Clashes broke out on the fringes of the procession, provoking clashes between demonstrators and police.

The demonstration was marked by a few projectile shots on the police, which responded with tear gas. According to the Police Prefecture, 200 to 300 demonstrators left the official procession to try to block the Paris ring road at the Porte de Vincennes. The police then intervened to block their progress.

Bridge bars [barrier deployed by the police to block an axis] were placed across the Cours de Vincennes but firefighters tried to climb them. Others tried to push them in, still according to the prefecture. The police then used the water launcher "to put an end to the abuses".

This is the second national firefighters 'demonstration in less than four months in the capital, at the call of professional firefighters' unions, mobilized since last summer to obtain answers to their demands from the government and local communities. The unions were to be received in the afternoon at the Ministry of the Interior to discuss these matters.
