Fukui Takahama Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 Retrieval of used “MOX fuel” starts January 27 at 20:18

At the Takahama Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 in Fukui Prefecture, the removal of used "MOX fuel", which is a mixture of plutonium and uranium, began on the 27th.
This is the second domestic case following Ikata Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 in Ehime Prefecture.

At Kansai Electric Power's Takahama Nuclear Power Station Units 3 and 4, plutonium is extracted from nuclear fuel that has been used once, and "pull thermal power generation" is performed using MOX fuel mixed with uranium again.

Of these, for the first time at Unit 3, which is undergoing regular inspections, eight spent MOX fuels were to be removed from the reactor, and work began at noon on the 27th.

And the removal of the two bodies scheduled for the 27th was completed successfully in about 2 hours.

Kansai Electric Power plans to sequentially remove the remaining six bodies by the 29th.

Eight spent MOX fuels are stored in a pool inside the building, just like normal nuclear fuel, but after that, the destination to carry them out has not been decided.

The removal of spent MOX fuel is the second example following Ikata Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 in Ehime Prefecture.

According to Kansai Electric Power, "The extraction work is proceeding smoothly and we will work carefully while considering safety."
