“In addition to the performances for the five songs named, there will be a special appearance by Questlove during the ceremony, and a moment directed by a guest, Eímear Noone. Noone is the first woman to conduct the orchestra during an Academy Awards ceremony, ”the Academy announced in a statement. Eímear Noone will therefore not conduct the orchestra during the whole ceremony, but the orchestra must perform under his direction extracts from the five soundtracks of films nominated this year for the Oscar. Rickey Minor, the musical director of the Oscars, is to conduct the orchestra for the rest of the ceremony.

"Normalize something I do everyday"

"The great Oscar producers have decided that they would finally like to see a woman on the podium after all these years," Eímear Noone told Variety. "These composers are my heroes and heroines, who will be seated in the audience while I perform their music. The composer added that "it is an honor to be there, to help normalize something that I do every day. Little girls everywhere will see this and say "I think I will do this later". This is what we want. "

Eímear Noone lives between Dublin and California, and conducts orchestras for 40 to 50 concerts each year, worldwide. She has notably conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Philarmonic in London, the Brittany Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony. She is particularly recognized for her work on music for video games. At the age of 21, she co-founded the Dublin City Concert Orchestra, to perform film music, and is the co-creator of the Dublin International Video Game Music Festival.
