The Chinese government has issued an order to mobilize hundreds of heavy vehicles and armies of construction workers to work day and night to build a hospital to treat coronavirus, covering an area of 1,000 acres from scratch within seven days, according to government media.
The emergency center is located in the suburbs of Wuhan, which is the epicenter of the virus that has killed at least 26 people, infected about 920 people and spread to nine other countries and regions.
The authorities instructed four construction companies to work during the Chinese New Year holidays to build the medical center, which is expected to receive the first patients on February 3, according to the British "Daily Mail" website.
According to the report, the hospital will consist of a number of temporary buildings, but officials are still deciding whether to use prefabricated components for on-site assembly or wards that are diverted from shipping containers.
The urgent construction mission is dedicated to four government-run companies, the third China Construction Engineering Bureau, Wuhan Engineering Construction Engineering Corporation, Wuhan Engineering Design Research and Engineering Institute, as well as Wuhan Hanyan Municipal Construction Group.
