This is the 32nd time that the Gothenburg Film Festival has awarded the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film award to the best Nordic film. This year, eight films will compete for a prize total of SEK 1 million, which aims to give the winner the opportunity to continue to go his own way as a filmmaker.

Three Swedish productions

Three of the nominated films are Swedish productions, including Maria Bäck's surrealistic drama Psychos in Stockholm, which also inaugurates this year's edition of Gothenburg's film festival. The film is based on the director's own experiences as a teenager when her mother suffered a mental breakdown during a trip.

Even Henrik Schyffert's movie Spring Uje, spring competes for the prize. As well as Amanda Kernell's Charter. In 2017, Amanda Kernell was also nominated and won for her film Sameblod.

Others nominated are the Norwegian-Swedish co-production Beware of Children by Dag Johan Haugerud and Icelandic The County, directed by Grímur Hákonarson.

Dragon Award Best Nordic Film will be presented at the Dragon Award gala on February 1st.
