If it is realized, it is the only eastern Japan to breed whale sharks in Oarai Town.

In order to enhance the appeal of Ibaraki Prefecture as a tourist destination, Ibaraki Prefecture has decided to start whale shark breeding, known as the world's largest fish, at the aquarium in Oarai.

Aqua World in Ibaraki Prefecture, located in Oarai Town, boasts more than 60 kinds of sharks, the largest in Japan, and about 1 million people visit annually.

In order to attract more tourists, Ibaraki Prefecture has decided to embark on the breeding of the world's largest fish, the whale shark that grows to over 10 meters in length.

According to the prefecture, whale sharks are currently bred in four aquariums in Okinawa, Kagoshima, Osaka, and Ishikawa prefectures.

There are some aquariums that are released into the sea as they can't fit into the aquarium when it grows larger, but Aqua World will set up one of the largest aquariums in Japan that can keep whale sharks alive throughout their lives.

The prefecture wants to be able to display it within three to four years after recording survey expenses in the next fiscal year and starting commercialization, waiting for the whale shark to be captured in the country.
