Sado High-speed Ship Accident “Safety confirmation is appropriate and criminal responsibility is not required”

In March, offshore Sado in Niigata Prefecture, a coastal accident that injured more than 80 passengers of a jet high-speed ship, and safety was confirmed at the time of the accident. We decided that there was no negligence and no criminal responsibility, and we sent a document summarizing these opinions and investigation results to the Niigata District Public Prosecutors Office.

In March, the “Sado Kisen” jet high-speed ship “Ginga”, which was heading from Niigata Port to Ryotsu Port in Sado City, collided with an object considered to be marine life and 85 passengers were seriously injured.

The Sado Coast Guard has investigated the cause of the accident and investigated the captain of the high-speed ship and the person responsible for operation on the grounds of suspicion of negligence on the job. The masters and others were not allowed to neglect because the call was made properly.

For this reason, the Japan Coast Guard decided that the captains were not liable for criminal responsibility, and sent the Niigata District Public Prosecutors Office a document summarizing these opinions and investigation results.

On the other hand, Sado Kisen is taking safety measures such as replacing seats of high-speed ships with seats that can absorb more shocks in response to an accident.
