Family Mart Elderly driver's license Voluntary return efforts December 13 17:43

A major convenience store, FamilyMart, has begun efforts to boost the self-return of driver's licenses for the elderly. We will hold a seminar for senior citizens by police officers in the restaurant's eating and drinking space and encourage return.

A class held at a store in Tokyo's Sumida Ward attracted 14 elderly people living nearby, and police officers suffered major accidents such as a mistake in the accelerator and brakes when the body's function and judgment declined. I explained that it was easy to connect.

Participation is free of charge, and those who actually returned the license will be encouraged to return it voluntarily, for example, by distributing a 1000 yen discount ticket that can be used at the store where the class was taken.

A woman in her 70s who attended said, “I was able to listen to the story without tension. I think that more people will return their licenses if this opportunity increases.”

At FamilyMart, we wanted to first implement it at stores in Tokyo and expand it nationwide in the future. Hiroshi Iwasaki, Director of Sustainability Promotion, said, “I want to use the store to solve social problems.”

In the distribution industry, AEON is also a part of supermarkets in Honshu and Shikoku, and offers discount services for delivery of goods to homes for elderly people who have returned their licenses.
