Hidden in the misty Amazon rainforest, the Kaieteur Falls are up to five times higher than those in the Niagara and almost double that of the Victoria Falls. To this hidden gem in the Kaieteur National Park, in the center of Guyana, tourists still do not arrive. Hence, being on the banks of the Potaro River and seeing its 100,000 liters of water fall on a 250-meter drop is a unique experience.

Adventure lovers have a reef here. Despite being a small country of 800,000 inhabitants, Guyana treasures landscapes of the most diverse: Atlantic beaches to the north, mountains to the west and impenetrable jungle to the south. It is home to more than 900 species of birds and about 225 mammals, among which are the jaguar , the anteater, the giant otter and the black alligators that populate all its rivers.

To visit the Kaieteur waterfalls you have to hire the plane service that leaves the traveler about two hours walk from the top of the magnificent waterfall. The hiking session is highly recommended as Kaieteur is seen from different points of view, but there is also the option of landing on a track just 15 minutes from the waterfalls.

Several tour operators offer this experience, but you have to book in advance, as the planes can only accommodate about ten people. The jump was discovered in 1870 by the English geologist Charles Barrington. Today this region of Potaro-Siparuni is claimed by Venezuela as part of the Esequiba Guiana.

Those who like to walk, another area worthwhile in this country bordering Brazil Suriname, in addition to Venezuela, is the Iwokrama Forest , one of the last four pristine tropical forests in the world (along with those of Congo, New Guinea and the Amazon), for which there are established routes for excursions. Many visitors also take the opportunity to explore its rivers by canoe. Fishing, 4x4 safaris and jungle survival courses are other activities that can be done in this natural setting.
