The Aragonese government has confirmed on Tuesday a robbery in the museum of the Romanesque monastery of San Juan de la Peña, considered as the cradle of Aragon and located in the Pyrenees, in the municipality of the town of Jaca.

The missing piece was exposed in a showcase of the Old Monastery museum, according to sources from the Department of Culture.

It is a small relief, about eleven centimeters high , in stone where two hands appear. It was exhibited as part of one of the original capitals of the Romanesque cloister of the monastery .

The disappearance would have occurred during this festive bridge and from the monastery the Department of Heritage was notified. The Civil Guard was in person to investigate the event.

The Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Aragon will file a complaint with the Civil Guard for the theft of the piece.

The museum workers realized that the work was missing and gave notice to the Civil Guard, and it will be the Government of Aragon, owner of this space, who files the complaint.

The historical-artistic complex of San Juan de la Peña is made up of a Romanesque building, called an old monastery, and another of the 17th century, known as the new monastery.
