Self-driving route bus Long distance Is it possible to handle complex situations? Demonstration test December 10 12:15

Demonstration experiments have started in Maebashi City and other places on the 10th to verify whether long-distance roads can be handled even in complex road conditions in an attempt to evolve the performance of autonomous buses.

This demonstration experiment is conducted by Gunma Prefecture, Gunma University, and local bus companies.

Drivers and passengers who are prepared for emergencies ride on a small car body with a capacity of 36 people, and at about 20 km / h, it is an approximately 9 km section between Gunma University in Maebashi City and JR Shibukawa Station in Shibukawa City. Has been verified to be sure.

This car body has a new system that receives weak radio waves transmitted from the traffic light side. When the car body receiver receives this radio wave, it automatically identifies the color of the signal in bad weather. Even if the in-vehicle camera cannot identify the color of the signal, it means that the bus can be operated safely.

In addition, on the 10th, an experiment was conducted to detect the exact position from the magnets installed on the road surface with the sensors of the car body.

Mr. Toshikazu Matsuoka, Manager of the Transportation Policy Division of Gunma Prefecture, said, “While the shortage of bus drivers is becoming a reality, we want to develop this technology as soon as possible.”

This experiment will continue until the 25th of this month, and will continue to be improved with the aim of becoming completely unmanned from next year.
