The Spanish Antonio Banderas has been distinguished today in Berlin with the award for best actor of the European Film Academy for his interpretation in the film Pain and Glory, by Pedro Almodóvar.

Banderas, in direct connection from his Theater of Soho, in Malaga, thanked the Academy and apologized for not being in Berlin to collect his prize.

De Almodóvar said it is "a miracle" that happened in his life, adding that the filmmaker is the man who admires, respects and loves.

The film said it has been one of the "most incredible" moments that has happened in his life before a camera.

In addition, the British Olivia Colman has been awarded the prize for the best actress of the European Film Academy for her performance in La Favorita.

And another prize for a Spaniard: the national film Buñuel in the labyrinth of turtles, by Salvador Simó, co-produced with Holland, was awarded the prize for the best animated film of the European Film Academy.

"This is incredible" and a "great honor," said an excited Simó picking up the prize, which he added is for the entire team that participated in the film.

He noted that his film is a friendship story between the great artist Ramón Acín and the filmmaker Luis Buñuel, but it has also become a "beautiful story" for those who participated in this film, which "has forged a great friendship."

He also wanted to dedicate the prize to his daughter Maria, who was the one who inspired him to "tell stories," he revealed.

The film is based on the homonymous comic by Fermín Solís, and starts with a Buñuel in Paris with difficulties to continue shooting after the scandalous premiere of The Golden Age (1930).
