With winter, viruses are more prevalent and among them, bronchitis. On the set of the show "No Rendezvous", Friday afternoon, on Europe 1, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed gives us some tips to better care for this pathology that affects no less than ten million French every year.

EUROPE 1 ACCOMPANES YOU

It is one of the most common pathologies in the population during the winter: many French people already affected by bronchitis and its symptoms. This is not surprising, since ten million people suffer from it every year, on average, in our country. But what is bronchitis? How to treat it well without risking superinfection? Dr. Jimmy Mohamed, chronicler of the show Sans Rendez-vous with Melanie Gomez, made the point with us Friday.

What is bronchitis?

"Bronchitis is the acute inflammation of the bronchi and bronchioles, the conduction pathways that lead to the alveoli and parenchyma of the lungs, where gas exchange takes place. There are ten million cases a year and in 90% of cases, it is viral, for example the bronchiolitis virus or the influenza virus. It is easy to diagnose: in an epidemic context, we observe a dry cough, then fat , with pain behind the chest. "

How to treat it?

"You should never take or have cough syrup taken for treatment, firstly because it is useless, then because it can be counter-productive: fighting cough can expose you to secondary infections. So there is not really any real treatment for bronchitis, we take paracetamol if we have a little temperature, we try to hydrate ourselves, to rest when we can, by taking honey, tea, lemon, hot water ... The symptoms improve in three or four days but the cough persists for ten days.Prudence, finally, in people at risk, as well as those with chronic obstructive bronchitis.
