An Indian man was killed when his smartphone exploded as he slept at his home in the Jagatsingpur district of India's Odisha state.

The explosion of the phone, which was in the charging position while sleeping near him, left huge smoke in the house.

For its part, Indian police said the victim, "22 years" was working as a construction worker, explaining that the phone exploded while charging after the temperature rose.

Police opened an investigation into the incident, and the body was taken to the morgue to determine the exact cause of death.

The smartphone model has not been identified.
