At the end of October, TV4 CEO Casten Almqvist resigned from SVT's plans to send a news block starting at 22.

- In my eyes, it is tone deaf. That is exactly the opposite of what you promised in the broadcasting state. In my world it is a declaration of war on news, Casten Almqvist told Jan Helin in the SVT program Window against the media world.

Now several of the company's journalists follow Almqvist's example and write in a debate article in the journal Journalisten that SVT should rethink.

The signing journalists write that the Riksdag has emphasized that SVT should take into account competing news media and that they now feel that SVT is breaking this, by "forcing viewers to choose between news broadcasts".

Chose to shut down local news

SVT's program director Jan Helin has previously written to the Cultural News that it is about upgrading local news.

“SVT's local news is also a completely different offering than TV4's estimated news broadcast, which is a full news hour with a national perspective. TV4 chose to shut down its local news in 2014 ”.

The TV4 journalists, however, believe that it is still a competitive situation.

“TV4Nyheterna has a network of national reporters around the country that accounts for a large and important part of the news reporting, which is unique. The result of this is that the viewers get to see local news in our main broadcast at 22.00 and in our other broadcasts, ”they write.
